Is general liability insurance required for a Washington electrical contractor license?
Electrical contractor license requirements include an original $4,000 electrical/telecommunication contractor surety bond or assignment of savings. Electrical contractors are encouraged to carry general liability insurance, but L&I does not keep records of liability insurance for electrical contractors. If the business performs non-electrical work, contractor registration may also be required.
That electrical-license rule should not be replaced with the construction contractor registration minimum. The two paths are separate, and the registration insurance requirement matters only when the business also performs work that requires construction contractor registration.
