Why there is no single Oregon bond amount
A contractor must select the endorsement that matches the structures and scope of work. Residential and commercial endorsements carry different bond and liability insurance requirements; a contractor holding both must satisfy both bond requirements.
Developer and limited-scope endorsements also have their own requirements. The table above covers the standard general, specialty, and limited contractor endorsements targeted by this guide.
Dual residential and commercial endorsements
An applicant holding both residential and commercial endorsements must file a surety bond for each endorsement in the applicable amount.
Do not choose the higher of the two amounts and assume that it replaces the other bond. The statute and current CCB page describe separate residential and commercial bond obligations for a dual endorsement.
Bond filing checklist
The bond must use a CCB bond form, match the applicant's legal business name, include the attorney-in-fact signature and attached power of attorney, accompany the application, and reach CCB no later than 60 days after the bond company signs it. CCB states that bonds must be continuous until canceled.
- Confirm the exact CCB endorsement or endorsements.
- Use the official CCB residential or commercial bond form.
- Make the legal business name match the application and state business record.
- Keep the attorney-in-fact signature and power of attorney with the bond.
- Submit the bond with the license application, not as a separate early filing.
- Check the signature date so the bond reaches CCB within the official window.
Legal basis
ORS 701.068 requires an applicant for issuance or renewal to file a surety bond in the amount set by ORS 701.081 or ORS 701.084.
Bond vs. liability insurance
A CCB surety bond and general liability insurance are separate requirements. Read the contractor bond vs. insurance guide before comparing products, then return to the Oregon general contractor licensing checklist for the rest of the application steps.
